<p> DIED. JERRY RUBIN, 56, 1960s activist turned businessman; from
a heart attack two weeks after being struck by an automobile;
in Los Angeles. The erstwhile Yippie created some of the era's
classic antiwar performance art--nominating a pig for President;
appearing before Congress dressed in Revolutionary War garb;
sending stockbrokers diving for dollars by dumping bills on
the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. Rubin and the other
Chicago Eight activists stood trial for their roles in the "police
riot" outside the 1968 Democratic National Convention; his conviction
on riot charges was eventually tossed out. At his death, he
was a prosperous distributor of nutritional drinks.
